CRUSING OUR WAY TO CORFU

We were up early as we had an 8:30 tour of the island of Corfu, Greece. I had always wanted to go there since this is where the movie, "My Family and Other Animals", was filmed.

This delightful story is an autobiographical work by naturalist Gerald Durrell, telling of the part of his childhood he spent on the Greek island of Corfu between 1935 and 1939. It describes the life of the Durrell Family on the island in a humorous manner, and also richly discusses the fauna of the island. I first saw it on Masterpiece Theatre and then rented it from Netflix so Frank and I could watch it together as he had missed it the first time around. Here is the family sitting in the surf having a picnic. What fun that must have been!

We once again took the Panoramic tour around the island since it didn't involve too much walking. As you can see, the roads were high and winding but the views were spectacular. There must have been at least 75 switchbacks but I felt quite safe in the hands of our competent driver.

The old citadel (Palaio Frourio) - literally: Old Fortress, is an old Venetian fortress built on an artificial islet with fortifications surrounding its entire perimeter.

The water was unbelievably clear and sparkling and the weather was wonderful.

This is a statue of Achilleús Thnēskōn (Achilles Dying) in the gardens of the Achilleion.

On one of our stops Frank couldn't resist posing with his new found friend. In fact, he even told him all about the Aggies and showed him his T-shirt :-)

We had a rest stop where we enjoyed a cold drink and soaked in some more of the beautiful scenery.

When we toured the town, took a little break and as I was sitting there, this band marched by. What a delightful and unexpected surprise.

We were back in time for lunch and then I had a little rest in the suite while Frank went to the Promenade Deck and took a nap on one of the deck chairs. I told him to be sure and take a book with him so people would think he was reading, not sleeping!

The entertainment tonight was a comic and he was great. We had fun laughing both at him and with him. We had dinner with John and Cathy since the other couple had gone to the Pinnacle Grill for dinner to celebrate Joe's birthday.

We got to know them a little better and they are a delightful couple. She has exquisite clothes and jewelry. When she walks into the dining room, all eyes are on her. I told Frank that I could wear my nightgown to dinner and have my hair in curlers and no one would even notice if Cathy was around! All kidding aside, she is a pleasure to have for a table mate and so is he. More about this later.
We were back in the suite by 10:00. We lost an hour the night before so this was a good thing.
Tomorrow's Frank's birthday so I want to be up bright and early to celebrate.

XOXO, Pcasso
